Showhouse Photo 2See these masterfully arranged vignettes, a combination of antique and modern, then talk with the professionals themselves. Theyre available to answer your questions and help you create rooms that reflect your own style and personality.

Your visit to the Connecticut Home Design Expo and SHOWHOUSE 2006 will also help others. A portion of ticket sale proceeds will benefit two charities: AmeriCares HomeFront program and Green Demolitions.

Mario Buatta, fondly known as "The Prince of Chintz", and named by Architectural Digest as one of the Top 100 Designers, will speak on Saturday, March 4th from 4 pm to 5 pm.

Also on hand in the SHOWHOUSE will be the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) to answer questions. You can learn about the services designers provide to clients, the steps involved in the design process, and questions to ask when interviewing a designer. The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is the oldest and largest professional organization for interior designers. Be sure to pick up their free booklet "How to Work with a Designer" while visiting.

Your first stop in the SHOWHOUSE is a "French Antique Foyer and Sitting Room Vignette". The vignette, by Bernard de Mallard of Leonce Antiques, Westport, CT welcomes you with elegant 18th and 19th century antiques in a French country setting.

Your next stop will bring you to U & I Decos "European Sitting Room Vignette", which is truly a global experience. Showhouse Photo 3A French artist and Peruvian artist have teamed up to give their distinctive designs the best of both worlds. The unique pieces in this room feature a variety of European designs sketched in Stamford then brought to life with Peruvian materials and craftsmanship. A one-of-a-kind lamp brings the jungle into this sitting room. Natural wood provides the knotted base for this conversation piece table lamp, which is topped off by a whip-stitched shade made from animal skins. A custom wood framed mirror is inserted with glass using a unique reverse hand painting technique. Hand painted wood and organic stains create finishes that make the chair, corner unit and console on display look as if they have been passed down over several generations. This multi-national collaboration will spark your own interest in designs that cross borders.

Take just a few steps, and youre guaranteed a spot at a romantic dinner table set for two. Linda Anne Heinzelmans "Dining Room Vignette"offers shine and glamour. Showhouse Photo 4Heinzelman says that large houses sometimes lack an intimate nook for husband and wife to enjoy a meal together, so she has carved out a sumptuous setting for all of the senses that mixes old and new with icy blue, cream and brown tones. The Baccarat Plume chandelier glistens from above, while a vase and tableware also by Baccarat provide more reflections and silvery tones. Heinzelman encourages her clients to use their crystal and china more often to make quality time with family into a special and sparkling occasion. Gracing the room are portraits of leaves and plants which add to the sensuality of the room. The dining room furniture combines old and modern design to show that classic curves and new, clear lines can work together with striking results.

Showhouse Image 5Gold accents and rich fabrics will draw you into Claire Maestronis "Master Bedroom Suite Vignette", which features several French imports of fabric and furniture. From floor to ceiling, this room is ready for royalty. The centerpiece is a bed literally fit for a king, with a gold leaf crown on the headboard. A canopy of fabric enhances bedding customized by Claire Maestroni and highlighted by a faux fur throw. Reproduction curtains fram either side of the bed and showcase Claire Maestronis unique curtain tie-back system. A hand-made earth-toned rug draws your attention to an 18th century Versailles parquet floor from Atmosphere by Philippe de Givenchy, an importer of antique and high-end European materials. VE Thoman Tapissiers dArt & fine Wall Upholstery brings their own technique to its fine wall upholstery, providing a smooth seamless background with their exclusive clean edge system and Molleton Padding. Extra wide imported French fabric and wide cotton padding add coziness and warmth to theroom.

Showhouse Image 6The "English Library Vignette" celebrates the works of Thomas Chippendale and shows how to bring Englands hand craftsmanship into your own home. The Library is decorated with hand-made reproductions, antiques and decorative items. The pieces include a Thomas Chippendale-style bureau bookcase; an English antique desk with a tooled leather top and a collection of handmade antique pillows. Youll discover a sense of history even in the small details, as these pillows are decorated with a bell pull from Castle Howard. A set of six Thomas Chippendale hand-colored engravings and two Kip architectural engravings from a series of English views take you back in time to the British countryside. Visitors who wish to purchase at the Expo will receive a complimentary hard copy of "Celebrating Thomas Chippendale 250 years of influence" by Rene Bilodeau.

Elegance starts early in the morning with the "Formal Contemporary Breakfast Nook Vignette". Experience "The Art of Custom" with a cutting-edge blend of high-quality pieces and texture. Showhouse Photo 7The interior design, by Joyce Clear of Clear Design Associates showcases a variety of work from master artisans. The elegantly proportioned demi-lune cabinet is graced with a precious stone top and hand-crafted in wengee. The space is heightened by a 6-foot award-winning screen as well as an easel that features original work by Robert Motherwell. Above the console, are three panels of art by Heidi Holzer reflecting various custom decorative finishes. The exquisite custom-made carpet, designed by Jakub Staron of New Canaan, provides the perfect oasis for the vignette. Although it is a breakfast nook by day, it can easily be transformed into an intimate setting for a formal dinner by night.

A comfy retreat awaits you in interior designer Connie Courtemanches "Cozy Sitting Room Vignette". Showhouse Image 8 The British Colonial period provides the inspiration for this look you can re-create in your own home. A beautifully tailored curved-back loveseat complimented by a coordinating chair, sisal carpeting, and the look of a fine vintage four panel screen brings the room together. A leopard pattern ottoman gives the room vignette the feeling of an exotic natural environment with foliage and bronze figural elements. These pieces are all available through the design center at United House Wrecking, Stamford, CT.

Even the coffee maker in this hi-tech kitchen delivers gourmet results with special features. This space-conscious Miele product fits into cabinets to help keep your counter clear and does not require plumbing. A combination of pressure and steam on the coffee bean creates the perfect customized cup of coffee, while a warming drawer heats your mug. A must see is the Liebherr refrigerator/freezer. This system operates with precise electronics, its modular and the most energy efficient in its class. It even prevents cold air from escaping when the door is opened, thus increasing efficiency and energy savings for the homeowner.
